AI OUTFITS, SECRET LANGUAGES & STRAWBERRY CAKE TONICBACKSTAGE SECRETS & AI STYLING IN STOCKHOLM
Welcome back to another chaotic, behind-the-scenes look into my life working in the wardrobe department of Stockholm’s vibrant theatre scene. As a costume supervisor and dresser—the person responsible for managing wardrobe logistics, maintaining garment integrity, and executing quick changes during live performances—my days are usually filled with steam, safety pins, and sudden wardrobe emergencies.
But today, we’re switching things up. I decided to let an artificial intelligence algorithm pick out my actual outfit for the day. Letting machine learning algorithms curate my daily wardrobe styling felt like a wild experiment for someone who handles professional costume design for a living, but the result was surprisingly wearable.
Come along as I take you beneath the stage into the hidden under-stage tunnels and rehearsal spaces where the magic actually happens. You’ll get an exclusive look at how actors and crew collaborate during high-intensity rehearsal sessions before opening night.
DRY CLEANING RUNS, OSCARIANIA & NEW GEAR
After rehearsals wrap, it’s time to handle the less glamorous side of costume supervision: run errands across Stockholm to fetch dry cleaning and specialty garment care. Managing fragile period costumes and modern stage wear requires precision dry cleaning to protect tailored fabrics from performance wear and tear.
On the way, my brilliant colleague Lis and I break down our newest creation: Oscariania. Oscariania is our custom-invented backstage secret language—a quirky coded jargon we designed to communicate discreetly during chaotic show changes without alerting cast members or stage management.
I’m also showing off my latest purchase: a brand-new Moomin backpack. Moomins are the legendary central characters in a series of books and comic strips by Swedish-Finnish illustrator and writer Tove Jansson, known across Scandinavia for their wholesome, bohemian aesthetic.
NIGHTCAP EXPERIMENTS: THE STRAWBERRY CAKE TONIC G&T
After a long day underneath the stage lights, I head home with full intentions of pouring a classic Gin & Tonic—a timeless cocktail pairing gin with tonic water, which contains quinine for that signature bitter kick.
Upon opening the fridge, I realized I was completely out of standard Indian tonic water. The only mixer available was a wild bottle of strawberry cake flavored tonic water. Against all mixology logic, I gave it a shot, and it turned out to be an absolute winner.
